Mardi Gras Parades

NEW ORLEANS EVENTS - 2008 Mardi Gras Parades

This is a special year for Mardi Gras in New Orleans. We owe it to our ancestors and our children to keep this cultural celebration alive. Krewe members, locals and visitors all need a reason to spread a little cheer, just as other generations did when Mardi Gras returned after the tragedies of world wars. This may be the most historic Mardi Gras ever and many will want to be a part of it.

Parade Planning:

  • The parade route will close to traffic roughly two hours before the parade begins.
  • A parade can take anywhere from two to four hours to pass by.
  • Downtown Canal Street crowds are more spirited and rowdy. Uptown and suburban parade routes are more family friendly.
  • There are port-o-lets along some parade routes but it's best to stake out a spot near a restaurant or bar.
  • Some downtown businesses offer special grandstand viewing, which place you above the crown and often include access to rest rooms and food and drink.
