The 17th annual New Orleans Film Festival is an internationally recognized "Cannes on the Mississippi" premiering local, regional, national and international independent films and videos and hosting numerous other screenings and events.
The Film Festival is devided into two categories.
The IN COMPETITION portion of the New Orleans Film Festival is devoted to presenting the best new films you may not get to see in movie theatres. From thirty seconds to feature length, and from animation to documentary, these films provide a glimpse into the anything-goes, frontier spirit of independent filmmaking, as it exists today. Last year, we had nearly 700 entries submitted from all over the world!
Prizes are awarded to the top film submitted in each category, as well as to the best film submitted by a Louisiana filmmaker. A grand prize is awarded for the film judged best overall by the Festival. Each award-winning filmmaker receives a cash prize and an award statue created for the Festival by local glass foundry, Studio Inferno.
THE BIG HOUSE portion of the NOFF, taking place at Canal Place Cinemas, is a showcase of major independent releases in recent, current or eventual distribution across the country.
The festival also presents the FILM CONGRESS, a series of mentor sessions, workshops, and panel discussions featuring industry leaders.
Apart from IN COMPETITION, the New Orleans Film Festival endeavors to nourish the creativity of Louisiana filmmakers and makes a portion of its venues and programming times available to feature local filmmakers
