My faith in God and using the talent he gave me.
How did you get your start?
When I was sixteen my mom wanted me to play keyboards because a lot of my uncles played keyboards. But I wanted to play guitar. I loved Guitar Slim.
What was your first gig?
I played guitar in the True Loving Gospel Singers and the Friendly Five Gospel Singers.
How did you get your nickname?
My real name is Edward Joseph Washington. My band told me that didn't sound like a guitar players name.
What is your best habit?
Having a good time.
What is your worst habit?
Partying too much.
What is the most romantic place in the city?
Feelings (Café) in the Marigny.
What's the most underrated thing about this city?
The musicians. There are so many good ones. Some are on the road so much people here don't get a chance to see them.
What's the one thing you would never change about New Orleans?
The parties. No matter what time it is you can always find a band playing and good people hanging out.
Who is your favorite local performer?
David Rockin' Dopsie.
What do you like to do on Mardi Gras?
I want to get out and have fun. Watch all the crazy people in the street. Watch the parades. Try to get another (Zulu) coconut.
What's your favorite Jazz Fest memory?
I saw Sly and the Family Stone. I loved it.
Where is the best place to play in New Orleans?
The Maple Leaf Club Uptown. That's my place.
